What are some scholarships and grants that i could apply for?
-
Im a high school senior and im soon about to graduate. I have looked at colleges and just yesterday i went to the Art Institute of sacramento to get more information and take a tour. I really love it but the only problem is that its too much for a year. about $25,000 a year for the whole 4 years im there. i want to study graphic design there and i just love the environment and how its a small school. i will probably live with my parents since they don't want me to go anywhere else because i cant afford anything :(. I wanted to sign up for grants and scholarships that can help me pay most of it. Im not looking for loans because i know i probably wont be able to pay that off on my own. I really don't know if we would qualify for grants because my dad gets paid good like 100,000 a year but the problem is that i have 7 siblings/nieces living with me right now and we have to pay for our car, house, food, electricity, we have 4 dogs so food and all the care for that, and we really cant afford to pay 25,000 a year for 4 years. i was thinking that the only option to get the most help from grants and scholarships is to move out on my own when im 18 and have no help from my parents. i don't have a job and that's bad too because how can i get an apartment if i don't have money. would section 8 be able to help me pay rent if i did move out and got my own apartment? i really have tried so hard to find a job. im desperate right now. when my parents told me that i couldn't go because we couldn't afford it, i was so sad and upset. i had finally found a college that i loved, was nearby, and i wanted to go to. i literally cried and i really don't want to go to a community college. my teachers have told me and i have also researched that the first 2 years its just general classes and only the last 2 years its of whatever you want to study in. i really don't want that. i want to just jump into graphic design. :( i don't know where to look for scholarships. i even told my mom that i would not go to college at all and just work for at least a year to raise up some money for college but i know it wont be enough to even pay half of it. i want a bachelor of science degree. the highest one basically so i could learn more and be more experienced. please please please help me.

Answer:
You will not qualify for any financial aide with Daddy bringing in over 100k a year. Scholarships are individual, but many of those are not available because of the high income. Most of those are to help the under privileged, not those with a Daddy with plenty of money. Section 8 can not be used for students, it is not student housing. It sounds like you will have no choice but to stay living with your parents and obtain student loans to pay for the tuition.

Look online for scholarships. Talk with the financial aid office of the college. Check out the pell grant. Don't expect it all for free. That is completely unrealistic. Your parents bills are irrelevant. All parents have bills. You will have to look at a school loans. Or change your college choice. Getting a complete free ride for college this late in your senior year is probably not possible. I am just trying to be realistic with you, not harsh.

Financial aid pays me quite a bit, but my situation is TOTALLY different than yours. Just apply for any scholarships you can, apply for financial aid. Talk to your guidance counselors. And get a job, that will be the biggest thing. Even if you work at McDonald's, save that money. Put it in a savings account, and don't touch it until you have to. Try to have a graduation party, that's how I paid for my tuition this quarter. Talk to your guidance counselors and see what they suggest.

Art Institute of Sacramento is a scam. Either choose a 2-year college with a Graphic Design program or Fine Arts program, or choose a reputable and well known art school. Art Institute of Sacto is not one of those. $25,000 for an obscure school is a scam. You dont have to spend that much. You might find an art internship along the way. Anyway, there is a book of scholarships and grants in your school library.
