What can I do to pay off this Hospital Bill, I am a Full Time College Student?
-
Hey everyone, I need some critical advice: I don't know what to do. Earlier this year, I had an emergency surgery, and everything went well. I am a full time college student and both of my parents are unemployed and so initially my father informed me that he would pay off the hospital bills via charity, and he did just that, but he did not know that the physician bills, radiology bills, etc were not covered. Well, now I have bills of such kind for over $7000 and I have no clue how to pay these, and I am only just turned 20 and a full time college student. I already know that all of these bills are going to end up at collection agencies (2 already have). However, I would like some advice, please give me some advice on how I can pay these off: I don't have a credit card and won't have one anytime soon for religious reasons, but I was thinking of going to a debt relief agency or some kind of agency that can pay off these bills and I can pay them off with one monthly payment? I don't know what to do, and so I figured I can post the question here. Please if you are able to give me any advice, do so. I will greatly appreciate everything. Thank You.

Answer:
Well, what I would do is contact the Doctor and radiology and such and see if payments can be arranged. Also arrange some sort of payment plan with the collection agency. But, at some point you are going to have to get some sort of a job (full or part time) in order to pay off the bills. Be careful on what debt relief agencies you go to. I have heard of people going to those and they send the money to the agency but, it doesn't get send on to the bill. For it already to be in collections, you have let it go on for a while. Maybe you need to take a semester off and get a job to pay it off. 7000 while a lot of money, is not insurmountable.

You will really damage your credit if they go to collections...you don't say if you're working, but perhaps you can pick up a part time job and make small, monthly payments to the hospital.
