What is a good EFC number?

What is a good efc number to know if u will get financial aid?

  • i applied about 5 days ago for financial aid and i haven not got a number for my efc what should be a good number and how will i know if i already went trough because all it says is 00000

  • Answer:

The zeros ARE your EFC number. It should be located at the top of your SAR and it will read: EFC: 00000 This means that based on the information on your FAFSA, your Expected Family Contribution is 0, meaning that your family is low income enough that you would not be expected to afford anything toward your own education. This means that you will qualify for the maximum Pell Grant of $4732 for 08-09 and possibly other aid depending on your school. Because you have received your SAR, you should be receiving information from your school as well very soon. If you have not, then you should contact their Financial Aid Office to get more information regarding your application status.

Your EFC doesn't tell you what you get, it tells you the minimum you will have to pay. All FAFSA does is qualify you for Federal financial aid which is Pell Grants, Stafford loans and work study. It sound like your EFC is zero so you will qualify for the full Pell, about $4700 per year, a $3500 Stafford loan and work study. Of course you don't get all that if you attend a CC that doesn't cost that much. If you attend a college that costs more, what more you get is up to the college. An y of ) means there will be many college you can't afford, so pay attention to cost and how generous a college is with aid when applying

Well, you'll get an email from the FAFSA processing department telling you it's been processed. Then you'll know everything went through to them. That doesn't mean your school's financial aid won't have additional forms for you to fill out, but if they do they will let you know. Your EFC is your Expected Family Contribution. It's the amount of money you (or your parents) are expected to come up with out of pocket. If your EFC says 0000 it means you qualify for full financial aid, and are eligible for the full financial aid amounts (doesn't mean you'll get the max of everything, but you're qualified to). That would include: $5,500 in Stafford Loan Money: ($3,500 between subsidized and unsubsidized, plus an additional $2,000 unsubsidized in an increase that the government recently approved...I believe beginning last spring term) Pell Grant Money: (Based on need, and since your EFC is ZERO you would be eligible for UP TO the maximum amount, which is $4731) FSEOG Grant Money: (Short for The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. This is for students with the MOST financial aid need, and amounts vary from $100-4000 a year). Grant money is not 100% guaranteed like loans are, as it is on a first come-first served basis. The sooner you submit all your required paperwork to your school's financial aid office, the better chance you have at getting a higher amount of grant money =) Hope that helped!!
