Where to search universities scholarships abroad?

Trying to help someone from Europe Study in US? where I can search for scholarships or grants?

  • I am helping out my friend from Ukraine get a student visa - and find the money to study in US (Seattle), where I can search for scholarships or grants that he could qualify for? The schools I asked told me that international students have to have a bank statement right off - to prove they can pay for the year - I also want to know about living here - renting with room mates - dorms - what way is the cheapest way to go - I really have never done any research on internationals studying here so this is all so new to me - ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL I want to get this done over summer so maybe by winter he can study here - It would be great if it was fall but I don't think i would be able to find anything over the summer - I think that scholarships deadlines are spring - Thank you for reading it all

  • Answer:

This is prob the best website I've found so far dealing with International students who want to study in the USA. http://www.educationusa.state.gov/ (look under International Students) It is important to understand that those who do come to study in the US must get a VISA and prove that they can not only afford to pay cash for their own college, but can also afford to live and not be homeless and starve to death when they do. This means if your friend does not have a lot of financial resources, (he is saying he needs grants, loans and scholarships to attend school), then he is not going to qualify for a visa will never even get over here... much less by the summer. Yes, the schools told you right. He has to prove (with bank statements), that he has a HUGE amount of money to pay for all these expenses. He has to be able to prove that he can not only pay cash for his tuition and fees, but also have enough money to live for an entire year or sometimes more. I wouldn't hold your breath to get this done by summer, esp if he is saying he can't afford it. International students are not eligible for any kind of USA state or federal financial aid and you'd be hard pressed to find a school that would give an international student a full scholarship either. PS: Never, ever, ever, ever, send any money to anyone, ever. There are TONS of scammers out there who do this sort of "story" thing for a living. He could be anyone, from anywhere,... you just never know.
