How can I spontaneously move to Brazil?

Help! I want to move to Brazil after my college graduation for a year. What can I do to support myself?

  • I have always been fascinated with Brazil and after four tough years in college, I think I am ready to move there for a year. I want to experience the culture first hand, living, eating and dancing like a true Brazilian. My ideal year would be spent with a family in Brazil, any economic background. I want to support myself somewhat but don't really know where to begin. Please let me know if you are aware of any programs with home stays or recent college grads. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

First of all, to be able to live in Brazil you need to speak some Portuguese. Many English speaking foreigners manage to get jobs teaching English. It's wasn't hard for me at all to become an English teacher. Just do some interviews, send out CVs... If your Portuguese is good you can earn money as a translater. You can also try working at NGOs. Contact the American Embassy in Brazil to see if they have some more tips.
