Civil Engineering scholarships?

Where can I find scholarships to pursue an engineering degree?

  • I am a high school senior and i am beginning my college search. I hope to attend either the University of Illinois or Purdue University (Preferably Illinois). I plan on studying engineering in college, either aerospace or civil but im not quite sure yet. I got a 34 on my ACT and i have an unweighted 4.6 GPA (although im not sure what scale thats on). my Weighted GPA is 5.3, putting me above the mark for graduation with highest honors. I do not qualify for minority scholarships.

  • Answer:

The S.M.A.R.T. Scholarship program may or may not interest you: http://smart.asee.org/ One requirement is that you have to agree to work for the U.S. Dept. of Defense after graduating - and follow through on that agreement. Also, if you have not already spoken with a financial aid counselor at each univ. (only a phone call away), do that and ask about any scholarships for pre-engineering students. The best database I feel for searching for scholarships is the Scholarship Search from the College Board: http://apps.collegeboard.org/cbsearch_ss/welcome.jsp Click on the Start link in the middle of the text. If you choose to register (free) so you may return to your search strategy later and modify it, feel secure that you will not receive spam emails. Also, there may be local and regional scholarships for students wishing to become engineers. Your high school guidance counselors should know about them. Another source for finding possible scholarships, if your public library subscribes to this database - GrantSelect. Just telephone the library and ask a reference librarian if the library subscribes to it. If they do, ask how you can access it. I can access it from my home computer through my local public library web pages by logging into my valid library borrower account. Librarians--Ask Us, We Answer!
