My student loan check may have been sent to an old address?

  • I have been expecting a check from my school, since it hadn't showed up i decided to check to see if they had my address correct, they did not, even though i gave them the correct address from the begining, i also seen that they had an old address from when i first called them "just thinking of going there" as my secondery address, i haven't lived there for 2 years, i'm affraid my check got sent there what should i do

    You need to contact your school's Campus Business Office. This is the office that is responsible for printing and mailing all financial aid checks. Let them know that you have not received your scheduled disbursement. They can check to see if the check has cleared (been cashed). If not, they can stop-payment on that check and reissue a new check to you. If the check HAS in fact been cashed, this situation can get much more difficult, so just pray that it is not cashed! In the meantime, also visit your school's Admissions Office to be sure that your address gets corrected to prevent this from happening again.

Go to the financial aid or billing office first thing tomorrow and tell them what happened. Call or email them if you can't go in person. They most likely will simply void the old check and write you a new one. If another person tried to cash it, as long as the teller is doing their job, they'd see that the address doesn't match. I once misplaced a paycheck from my school and didn't know I had put it away. When I found it, it was expired and I went to the payroll office and they simply voided it and cut me a new one.
