Am I eligible for Financial aid if I'm not a Resident?

Im appealing my financial aid can somebody proof read my letter and tell what you think about it please?

  • Dear Office of Student Financial Aid, My name is ??and I am writing to ask you to appeal my suspension of federal aid. I know my grades are not the best and I take full complete responsibility for my grades. I found this past fall and spring semester to be difficult for me because I never been in a regular education class due to the fact I been in special education all my school years. It was very difficult for me to concentrate and do well in my classes. My learning disabilities’ which took a toll on me to keep up with the class work which lead me to fall way behind. I didn’t use all my resource like I should had or knew about. As a result of that I considered dropping some of my courses I knew I was having a lot of trouble in which I thought I was helping myself to focus on what I knew I would pass. I do realize that I neglected my studies and I would like another chance to do better in them. My focus for the upcoming academic year is to better manage my time, study, get work done and accurately. My goals are to earn a Degree in Criminal Justice and to take all the necessary classes I need to finishes my education so I can transfer to a four year university. I have been wonting to make it to a four year college all my life. Without financial aid, I lack the financial ability to do this I’m a hard working dedicate student which I always strive to be the best but I have my down falls and its not nobody fault but mines that’s why I take full responsibility. I’m willing to work harder and give 110% time into my education. I’ve learned a valuable lesson which I will never forget. I am very much aware that I should have taken some different directions to maintain my grades above D, but I have compiled a list of things I will do to obtain/maintain higher grades and continue my success in school. I will enroll with DSPS office because of my disabilities. I will obtain a tutor for my most difficult classes by becoming familiar with the tutoring center on campus. I will talk to each of my instructors personally to find out how I can do well in their classes. I will manage my time wisely so that I can balance my family and studies together. I will attend all of my classes to take advantage of what they have to offer. There isn’t anything else that I want more than to obtain my degree. I am sure that you all know what a huge honor and accomplishment it is to obtain a degree and I would like to prove this to everybody in the world that people’s with disabilities can do things to. I can not emphasize enough how important this is to me. Please allow me the opportunity to continue receiving financial aid to continue my education and make this dream of obtaining my degree possible. Please take this letter into consideration and give me another chance to prove my dedication. Thank you for your time, * your name*

  • Answer:

It's awfully long, and you make a lot of grammatical mistakes. Not to be harsh, but I can see why your financial aid was dropped, because this is not college-level writing. This needs to be sharply edited to shorten it and fix all of the mistakes. Get one of your professors, or a peer tutor, to help you with it. Right now, you're just asking for a chance to prove your dedication. Be more specific about what you would like them to do. I think you should propose that the college agree to a probationary period where you would do the things you have promised to do. In return, if your grades improve, they would reinstate the aid. Right now it sounds like you slacked off and thought you could get away with it. You didn't care until they cut your aid. You need to show them--with actions, not just words--that you're serious about getting a college education. Good luck.
