How Does the Military Pay for College?

Military pay for college? How does that work?

  • I am having a hard time with picking my college, and degree and all of those fun things, I had a question. If i were to join the air force (lets just say) Would I be able to go to college like normally? would they say what degrees I can try to get and they will pay for? how would this all work? And if I only wanted to stay in the air force for the amount of time that I would need to go to college in order for them to pay for it could i? meaning after four years of college, and getting a degree, can i just leave the air force? (who knows i might not leave :P)

  • Answer:

If the military pays for your education you are under obligation to serve a certain amount of time in. Say you go to the college of your choice and are in the ROTC program, you get your degree in Communications and then are under obligation to serve with the Air Force for around 4 years as an Officer. Or if you decide to enlist right away, you can use Tuition Assistance which is up to 16 credit hours of $4500 per fiscal year (around 1 class a semester) first. Right now you cannot use your GI Bill (which you put in $1200, $100 a month for first 12 months of entering) until you have served 3 years AD.

The military is a great option when it comes to paying for college. When you join any branch of service you will be offered support for schooling. However you cant just drop out at any time you have to finish your contract with the "airforce" but the school benefits will always remain.

my whole life is about the military, um you sign up for the army or whatever you chose to do for the military, and as you are learning how to shoot a gun or how to do something, depending on your job, you learn and go to college but the college is different.

you have to put in service with whatever military you choose. it's nice that you thought of enlisting and not try to back out of it. some ppl think they can just go to school and somehow not serve in return. good luck.
