What grants are there for financil aid aside from the WIA and Federal Pell Grant?
-
My financial aid advisor is pushing loans. But I wants as many grants as possible. I know of the WIA program and the Federal Pell Grant; but what else is available?

Answer:
There are scholarships available from outside sources, but it takes time and no guarantee of being chosen. I will give you several free sources where you can locate them. First, your financial aid office and its website has a list of private scholarships from companies and organizations. Second, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for your college major, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites. Many are updated on a regular basis. There are several who have a customized search available to its users. It is always an idea to join more than one since one scholarship maybe registered with one and maybe not another. Good luck!

the grants that u are eligiable for will show on your award letter. sometimes that means getting your FAFSA complete as soon as possible after the 1st of the year.

Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/student_guide/2004_2005/english/types.htm , you may want to explore private foundation grants For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." These are grants from private foundations (not government). You can subscribe for 1 month and then unsubscribe when you have found all the information you need
