Is Wells Fargo a good student loan?

How difficult is it to get a student loan through Wells Fargo?

  • I'm thinking of attending a community college that doesn't have federal student loan coverage. I would need a private loan to finance my education, and I'm thinking about trying for Wells Fargo. When should I apply for that, and what are my chances? Have you ever had one? What kind of credit did your cosigner have?

  • Answer:

Please heed the caution given to you by Alex. Please, please do NOT take out any private loan to fund your higher education. I recommend you read this recent news article about the pitfalls of private loans for higher education and for-profit/career/proprietary colleges: Seattle Times Dec. 10, 2011. Private Student Loans Draw Consumer Bureau's Scrutiny, by Eileen Ambrose of The Baltimore Sun http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2016971508_pfstudentloans11.html?syndication=rss A true community college, funded by local tax district dollars, will allow you to be offered a loan through the Federal government. A for-profit/career/proprietary school, which is first and foremost a business with the focus to earn profits for its shareholders. may not be eligible for any Federal government financial aid options. If you are still a high school student, I recommend you hold a conversation with a high school guidance counselor and learn which is the true community college for your area and why it is the best education deal for anyone's dollar and also learn about the pros and cons of for-profit/career/proprietary schools. If a college doesn't have federal aid available, 9 times out of 10 it's because it's an unaccredited, illegitimate college. Unless you are absolutely 100% sure that it's a real college, go somewhere else.
