  • Answer:

Have you completed the fafsa yet? If not, do that online at http://fafsa.ed.gov This is the first step toward getting a federal student loan. If you are unable to get federal loans, the next best thing is a scholarship. Start applying now, there are many scholarship search engines like fast web and program advisors. Try http://www.ReviewScholarships.com it links to all the major sites. Don't forget to search locally for scholarships, check with the local Lions club, Rotary Club... any of the civic clubs as well as the chamber of commerce. The last resort would be private student loans. But as you stated you don't have a co-signor so these would be tough to get unless you have some established credit and employment history. Remember that a co-signor just has to be an adult family member. It doesn't have to be your parent(s), your aunt, uncle or even grandparents could work. If you can find a co-signor or even if you just want to try on your own first I'd recommend trying Chase Bank. They have a private student loan division you can reach through http://www.usadegrees.com/chase/ I think you can even apply online to get an answer. Also try Student Loan Advisors at http://www.studentloanadvisors.com/ Hopefully that is enough to get you started at least. Good Luck!

There is no single best lender for everyone. Your best course of action is to request a list of recommended lenders from the colleges you plan to attend and investigate them to see which offers the features most important to you. There is no "one size fits all".
