I need to find aid to pay for college. FAFSA won't give me any assistance because of my parent's income.?
-
I applied for the FAFSA when I was a senior in high school. Now that I am in college, my father told me that he can no longer pay for my education so I have to seek for more assistance. The FAFSA won't give me anything due to my father's income and I can't seem to find any scholarships that fit me. I've searched EVERYWHERE. Any suggestions? I am: 18-years old Mexican descent Speak fluent English, Spanish, and a bit of French Biological Sciences major with pre-medicine emphasis First one in my family to attend college Thanks for the help! (: Oh and a while ago, I heard that there are scholarships for literally anything. But as mentioned before, I can't seem to find those *******. lol I appreciate your help! (:

Answer:
First of all, FAFSA does not deny ANYBODY aid based solely on their parents income. Period. Even if your parents last year had an income higher than Warren Buffet's, there is federal financial aid available for you. For nearly every student who applies, the only thing available is loans. But even loans will give you the money you need to pay for your education. If you are not being offered any sort of aid at all, most likely the reason is that you indicated on your application that you would refuse to accept anything other than a grant, which seriously limits your options. Only the lowest income families are eligible for grants. Federal loans are actually very reasonable. They are designed specifically for people exactly like you. No money, no credit, no nothing. You ARE eligible for a Federal Loan. And you will not even need to think about paying it back until well after you have left college and had time to begin working and making a good solid income. And then, you really won't need that money anymore, will you? If you're willing to accept a loan, contact your school's financial aid office and let them know, and they will be able to help you. If you're still interested in scholarships, your financial aid office should have information about scholarships that may be available to you as well.
