Can I change my parent on FAFSA?

Will fafsa lower my EFC if i change my housing plans to living off campus instead of with a parent?

  • Im not quite sure if I I will be staying at home if i go to a community college. so if i go back and change it will they pay for my off campus housing and lower my EFC because we are kind of broke. What if i put off campus housing for community college and end up staying home? also

  • Answer:

Whether you decide to live with your parents or not has NOTHING to do with your efc. Your efc will not go up or down if you move out. You are just making your cost of living go up instead. If you and your parents are broke, you should not be moving out.

your efc is not effected by your housing plans. It doesn't matter. changing it does not always mean fin aid will pay for your housing, depends on how much (and what kinds ) of aid you get. Anyone can get loans and parent plus loans, if your parents are willing to do that for you (and you trust them to actually give you the money).

just not that
