Don't worry -- it is possible to get your fee waived! See the link below for more details on that one. Also, don't forget to fill out the FAFSA and, if you are having trouble paying for college still, you might want to 1. consider the colleges on the list below. They are perfect for students from low income families: they provide no loan packages (so you graduate debt-free), or they let you in on a full ride, or they don't even have tuition! 2. Your financial aid adviser will work with you to help you figure out a way to pay.

call up the individual schools and ask their policy on waiving the application fee.

Few colleges, especially community colleges, randomly give out fee waivers - especially for someone that "took off a semester" and thus may take off another. It really makes no sense in applying to multiple community colleges. But the reality is that many colleges do offer a fee waiver after you've been accepted, and once you formally enroll in classes - and will give you school credit - and that would probably be your best bet.

True, you don't have a guidance counselor if you aren't in school. You don't need one. The colleges and universities have financial aid officers/advisors who will help you afford their schools. Seek them out. So do the FAFSA, make calls about the application fee, and call the financial aid offices of the schools.
