Why does student wants to enrolled nursing course?

HELP! Is this an acceptable letter for financial aid reinstatement?

  • Dear Members of the ** Financial Aid Office: I am writing this letter to you in hopes of appealing my financial aid status from ineligible to eligible. I know that ultimately, it is my own fault that I am in this situation, but am hoping you will consider some of the events that I believe led to this. I do not want to make excuses, but I would like to explain the circumstances. After graduating high school in 2007, I had no solid idea as to what I really wanted to do as a career. I started attending** in the Spring of 2008, and enrolled in the Nursing Assistant class. I began attending the ** campus summer semester of 2008, enrolled in three classes, and was on the wait list to enter the nursing program. I realized that I really didn’t enjoy the things I was learning about, and withdrew from the classes. At that time, I was totally naïve and unaware of financial aid guidelines. I had always loved children, and enjoyed being a teacher’s aid in an elementary school my senior year of high school, so I changed my program and enrolled in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program for the Fall 2009 semester. I took 15 classes and received A’s in each. Spring semester of 2010, I took on a full time job at a local bank, and took 12 credits in the ECE program, receiving A’s in each. The bank was very impressed with my performance, and made an offer to pay for my books and tuition for two courses a semester if I switched my major to business. I didn’t mind my job, and knew I could use the extra financial help, so I accepted the offer and changed programs. Fall semester of 2010 I worked full time and took nine general credits as well as the three credit Intro to Business course. During this semester I realized how much more difficult it was for me to focus on things I wasn’t as interested in. Because of this and some other issues, I started seeing a psychiatrist. Dr. ** treated my symptoms by prescribing Adderall to allow me to maintain my focus. He also treated me for depression and anxiety with Celexa. After beginning these medications I was able to focus much more clearly on my school work, and earned two A’s and two B’s that semester. The spring semester of 2011 is where I feel I really took a fall academically. In January of 2011, I found out I was pregnant, and had to completely go off of my medications. I was highly stressed out about all aspects of the pregnancy, and was unable to take medication for it. I also had to go off of the Adderall, which further deterred my focus. I was having such a difficult time concentrating in my Credit – Consumer class that I ended up dropping it part of the way through the semester, leaving me with four one credit classes in which I earned two A’s, one B, and a C. On May 19, 2011, my grandma passed away from cancer. She had been diagnosed in December of 2010, and when she found out I was pregnant, she said she was fighting to live so that she could meet her great-granddaughter. When she passed away, it was especially hard on me knowing that not only would my daughter not get to know her, but also because I felt that although I was keeping her going, it wasn’t enough. In the beginning of August, I was deeply affected by the sudden onset of seizures and other serious health issues my three-year-old dog began experiencing. On August 12, 2011 she was diagnosed with epilepsy, secondary to chronic central nervous system problems. After about a one-week stay at the veterinary hospital, I was able to take her back home. This experience was extremely stressful and depressing for me. I saw my OB/GYN after this happened, and let him know of my extreme stress, and he scheduled me for a C-section for September 6, 2011 which was only a couple of days before my September 10, 2011 due date. I was under so much stress, and ended up going into labor and having a C-section on August 25, 2011. At this time, I was enrolled in 12 credits at ** for the fall semester. After having my daughter via C-section, I realized that my course load might have been too much, so I dropped Practicum 3 (I believe on the day that it was scheduled to start), and replaced it with another three credit ECE class that did not require additional student teaching hours. During the beginning of the fall 2011 semester, I had some difficulties balancing being a new mom and focusing on school, but all four of my instructors were extremely understanding and helpful, making it possible for me to complete the courses. In October of 2011, I was able to go back on the Adderall, which helped me focus again. However, in November my dog suffered a second bought of seizures, and had to be hospitalized again, which diverted my focus. Again, my instructors were extremely understanding and supportive of me. • Answer:

I would make it shorter and to the point (a page or under). Just put what your circumstances were that prevented you from completing the classes and what you will do better if you get reinstated.

Like the other guy said, it is way too long. No one is going to read all that! A good skill to have is to say what you want to say in a concise manner. Right now, it just sounds like a string of excuses. Other than cutting back your work hours, you have not really made a good case as to why you will do better. I know you want to finish your degree, and this is a smart thing to do, but you may have to decide if you want it bad enough to pay for it yourself. There are private student loans out there. I do not usually condone them, because the debt snowballs over many years in school, but if you are very close to finishing, taking one out might be a smart idea so you can finish your degree. I assume if you think you have a strong case, you have improved your grades last Fall semester. This would be the number one thing the school will look at when they make their decision. If you did not improve your grades, I don't think your chances are likely, but go ahead and try. Cut the letter to the main points and keep it down to a page or less.
