Can I change my parent on FAFSA?

FAFSA help !! Did not enter parent's information on sent app? Can I change it?

  • So i filled up my FAFSA & submitted it & realized I think I made a mistake ! I didn't provide any parental information ): ? There was a section that concluded dependent/independent status, obviously im dependent living in my parent's house. So i clicked Yes I'm Dependent. Then, underneath it already had an independent section and it also said something about providing parental information if im a health profession student & another thing i forgot.. Then there was a question asking if i wanted to talk about my parents.. I put no. so therefore i think it led me to not enter the info so i feel screwed CAN I FIX THIS EVEN IF I SENT IT??? ): please anyone?

  • Answer:

You must have answered "yes" to one of the dependency status questions. Simply living at home doesn't make you a dependent student. Are you over 24? Married? Have kids of your own? Already have a bachelor's degree? Are you sure that you didn't click "yes I HAVE dependents?" There is no question that asks if you're dependent or independent rather it determines it based on these questions. Go back to the dependency status questions and make sure that you've answered "no" to all of them. Make sure that you understand what the questions are asking. You might have to wait until your application has been processed (2-3 days) before you can make corrections.
