Im looking to go to college for the first time, Im 27 yrs old & unemployed, Im so confused about financial aid
-
Im 27 yrs old, have been unemployed because jobs where I live suck & Im trying to go to school to make something of myself & stop job hopping. Im going to go to a local college offering a dental assistant program that is 600 hours. It offers financial aid & Im confused by the whole process. I still live at home with my parents, so would they go by my parents income or can I just say I live by myself & I dont work & then I could go to school for free?? Anyone know about this??

Wow...looks like you got a lot of spammers.lol. but seriously, Because you are 27 y/o you are an independent student whether you live with your parents or not. This will net you more financial aid than say.....an 18 year old fresh out of HS. So you wont need your parents info. You will need to find out if the school you plan to attend offers "in-house" financial aid (which can be very pricey) or qualifies for Federal financial aid. If they use federal financial aid you will need to fill out the FAFSA. The fafsa is an easy form (make sure you double check everything though) you can complete it online. I'm a 23 y/o single mom and know what its like to job hop. After years of retail management I decided to go to school to become a dental hygienist. Im in school now (community college) and because Im considered an independent student. I qualified for full financial aid. I pay nothing to attend school and even recieve a refund of the extra financial aid funds. I wish you the best and conrgratulate you on your decision to change your life. one last note.... Make sure your school is accredited. Im in school now with more than a couple of women that paid a lot for technical schools and recieved diplomas (nursing, CNA, dental assisting, and pharm assitant) only to find out after graduating that their diplomas were useless because the school was not accredited and therefore not recognized by the state.

Your parents are no longer financially responsible for you. I am guessing you could get full aid. The school will be able to advise. Call anonymously and ask. If you are paying bills it would be a consideration.

you can go to the fafsa website and see for yourself whether or not you will need your parents info..they have a form you can fill out to declare you dependent or independent..also the financial aid office at your school should be able to answer any questions you have and even submit all your applications for you..good luck..

Have you consider to get a scholarship? Each provider has different requirements. Maybe you can try to go to http://all-about-scholarship.com it's about scholarships/grants information. Good luck

There are so many different answers to you questions. The only way you can find out is to call, and/or apply online at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or call at: 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665.
