What is the student body of colleges?

Low GPA, which colleges can I get into?

  • Yes, in my school district we only have 6 classes. FRESHMAN YEAR: 1st semester: 3 A's and 3 B's (B were in honors world history, biology, and honors english) 2nd semester: 5 A's and 1 B (B was in honors world history, yup i HATED world history..) SOPHOMORE YEAR: 1st semester: 6 A's (all A's! woot!) So, i'm in my 2nd semester of sophomore year. I know I have a lot of time and courses to make up my GPA but I want to attend to an ivy league college (or "GOOD" colleges) such as: - University of Washington (I really want to study medicine.. or just study in the medical field) - UCLA - Harvard - Stanford - Cambridge (UK) etc. etc. etc. (ANY other recommendations for college would be nice!) What I'm worried is that I calculated my GPA and I think I have a ~3.778. I heard that in order to get a scholarship the most minimum is a 3.8. I am so scared. ALSO, I turned in my application for AP US History for sophomore year and obviously from my grades in freshman year, I didn't get in. Is that going to be bad in the long run (like for college transcripts/etc.)? Please be honest because I know I screwed up in freshman year because I didn't realize how important high school was until the end of the freshman year (which was too late anyways). And yeah I know that SAT/ACT scores are what colleges look at (mostly SATs though..), letters/applications, and good teacher recommendation letters, but I also want to get good grades that qualify to attend an ivy league college (or like I said before "GOOD" colleges). I do a lot of community/volunteer work, such as church and local organizations, charity, and hospitals. I am currently an active member of Key Club. I've also done swimming for this season in my sophomore year. I'm also going to be taking 2 online history courses (both are just semester courses - whew!) during the summer. I received a B in biology, which isn't very good because I'm going to be studying in the medical field..., so should I just take an online course for just one semester to make that grade up? I asked my counselor a whole of varying questions and he said that he can be made up by doing that online course. QUESTIONS: (Please give detailed responses) 1). Is that going to be bad in the long run (like for college transcripts/etc.)? (not getting accepted in AP US History in Sophomore year) 2). Please give more detail and thought into the answers. 3). Is it bad if I don't get a varsity letter in sports?.. 4). Also, what if I don't join student body? Do I HAVE to be president or is it just good to be in any position in that? I'll probably join other clubs such as NJHS. 5). Should I just take an online course for just one semester to make that grade up? (Biology, 1st semester of freshman year) Be honest and PLEASE give recommendations for other universities that might fit me and ask if you want to know my schedule so you have an idea of what my all courses/classes and grades are like. Thank you!

  • Answer:

Stanford and Harvard are looking for THE BEST of the best. You don't really stand that great of a shot even if you have a 4.0 all four years. Either way, if you struggle in high school at all, you'd die at a college like that because classes are MUCH MUCH more difficult than high school freshman and sophomore classes. You might be fine with UCLA or UW if you live in California or Washington, but going into medical is extremely difficult, just saying. Don't think you need to join random clubs or sports. They want you to do things you're actually passionate about.

Why don't you just try applying to state schools? They're the cheapest.

Ghost In A Trench Coat

if you are struggling with grades why do you even want to go to college it is MUCH tougher than high school although high school courses are really easy so much so that colleges have to offer remedial courses to freshmen to get them to where they ought to be for college
