How can i get money for school?

  • ok so i am 23 live with my mom and i really wanna go to school, my mom makes little to no money and i make even less, she makes about 15,000 a year give or take a few hundred, we have no money and loans are out of the question, alot of my friends think i should be able to get school paid for from federal grants and stuff but i can't find them ... i honestly don't know what to do to get the money ... mom didn't get out of jr high dad graduated HS but thats it, if you know of anything that can help please let me know ... thanks so much!!!!

    There is a website out there that can help you. No matter your age. The website focuses on helping you get scholarship money to help pay for school. Now, it's true, that you can get federal grant and state grant money to help you out, but grants are hard to come by. Whatever the case, I'd suggest a few things for you. First: consider a community college, but do your research. You'll want to find a CC near you that has a high percentage of transfer students who go on to four-year schools. You don't want a CC that's just full of people who act like they're still in high school. This is usually a very inexpensive way to take care of some basic classes that you will need to move further along in college. Second: No matter where you go, fill out a FAFSA. This form is available online. Google it. You may qualify for federal money and state money just from that, based on your income level. It never hurts to try. Finally: Go to fastweb's site. It's listed in my sources. These people are amazing. They find money where ever it is. And, depending on your history, occupation, lifestyle challenges, etc, you never know what you will qualify for. Sometimes it's just a 100 bucks. But sometimes it's like 2 grand. So, you never know. If you need help writing essays, find a tutor at the local CC, they usually do it for free. Hope this helps. Google FAFSA and fill out the application. This is federal aid and ask for grants only if loans are out of the question. All of the things you mentioned matter. Your parents' education, how much you make now, etc. You should probably be able to get some grants. Consider going to a community college until you can afford a university.
