How reliable are all the fastweb scholarships?

Can you really get scholarships from fastweb.com?

  • I really need some scholarships going into my second year of college, but I find it so hard to find things that I qualify for.

  • Answer:

I found fastweb to be helpful because it searches a database of available scholarships based on your personal attributes, so it finds scholarships for which you would be qualified. The FAFSA is, however, the best way to find financial aid.

people say to use fastweb, but I always find it pointless. I would just fill out the FAFSA and they will give you aid based on your EFC (expected family contribution). If FAFSA doesn't work, I would get a part-time job because then you also get some experience, which is very helpful once you graduate.

Jasmine, fastweb is the best. The hardest part is just getting started. But once you write your first paper as to why you want or need the money, all you do after that is just tweak the letters for the next application. It is time consuming to look thru the website but its worth it. I am working on my Masters in Psychology and use fastweb to help me keep my costs in check. Its like a part-time job looking for the money but its worth it. How many part-time jobs pay out $5000 in scholarship money? They money is out there, go forth and find it!

Well, FastWeb compiles scholarships that you may qualify for based on your program of study and other things you fill out when you create your profile. It is just a way of putting the info in one place so you don't have to search all over the Internet looking for scholarships. When I was searching, I would think of what field I wanted to go into, and then look up scholarships for individuals wanting to go into that field. That helped narrow my searches a little. Federal aid is a different story. The FAFSA is actually the application you use to apply for federal aid, which is either grants and/or loans. This is based solely on financial need, so you have to supply either your parents tax info, or your own tax info. They then determine what your financial need is, and then offer you a grant (free money) or a federal loan (low interest rate etc...) Many people don't qualify for federal aid because they make too much, or their household makes too much money. I would also check what programs your state has, there are often grants available through the state. I hope this helps a bit!

I have used FAFSA to search for scholarships a few years ago but haven't used it since and I have never known anyone to get scholarships through the website. The college you attend should also have a list of scholarships for which students who attend the school can apply for.
