Dual enrollment able to get money for college?
-
If your a dual enrollment student in florida, is it possible to get money for college? I know college students get refund checks and financial aid so i am curious if dual enrollment students are eligible for any money since they are technically college students.

Answer:
From what I understand about the Florida dual enrollment program - high school students taking both high school courses and college level courses - the student (or his/her parents) does not pay the college course tuition or fees. The dual enrollment is in actuality a high school student who is also allowed to take college level classes; not technically a college student. If you or your parents are not paying anything for you to take the college level courses through the dual enrollment program, you would not be eligible to apply for financial aid to help pay for those courses. Since neither you nor your parents are paying out of pocket for those college level courses in the first place, so why would you need money to help pay for them? Once you will be applying to attend a college or university after you have graduated from high school, you can apply for college/univ. financial aid. Generally high school students complete the application, FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid - http://www.fafsa.ed.gov), as soon as possible after Jan. 1 of the year they will be graduating from H.S. Once you have an idea of the colleges or universities to which you want to apply for possible acceptance and attendance after H.S., be sure to talk (by phone or in-person) with the financial aid counselors at your potential schools regarding the possibilities for financial aid to help pay your college/univ. expenses. Also, be sure to talk with a high school guidance counselor who can give you direction regarding college/univ. financial aid. Also, once high school classes begin in the Fall, be sure to talk with your high school librarian. He/she can direct you to some good information to help you learn about how to pay for higher education financial aid. A reference librarian at your local public library can also help you find good information that will educate you about how you can best pay for college and financial aid.
