Financial aid problem.please help?

  • I took three classes during the winter semester and dropped two of them at the last month of the semester.I recieved financial aid and now i recieved a letter telling me that i have to pay back the amount i recieved from financial aid.my question is if I paid all my balance and retook those same classes that i failed will i get that money back since i passed them.I want to know before i go to the financial aid.PLEASE HELP..

  • Answer:

You would not get your money back, no. The way it works is that if you drop the classes after a certain point in the term, your financial aid is returned to its sources, and you yourself owe the cost of the courses to your school. You have to pay your school before you can take additional classes. You owe them the money because they'd reserved that spot for you. You basically bought the classroom space, the professor's salary, etc. Just because you weren't there, doesn't mean you didn't have those resources reserved for your use. After X point in the semester, it was too late for the school to get another student to take your place, so you owe the money. If you retake those classes, you'll have to pay for them *again*.
