What exactly is financial aid and how do you get it?

Can you please estimate how much financial aid I could get with what my family makes?

  • Both my parents work. My dad makes roughly 60,000 and my mother makes 80,000. They have 4 kids. What sort of financial aid might I get if any? I just want an estimate I'm not yet old enough to fill out the FASFA

    You may not be old enough, or have the need to fill out a FAFSA yet, but there are several "test" FAFSAs on-line that you can complete, just to get some ballpark figures. Just enter a search term like "FAFSA estimator" in Google and you'll receive several hits. Using one of these estimators might be a good way for you to talk over with your parents the cost of college and how much they are willing to contribute to your education. Good luck!

why on earth do you need financial aid if they earn that kind of money? our total household income is just over 20,000 and we have 2 kids. we are hardly entitled to anything.

You can get unsubsidized federal loans only...so not much. Start saving your money if your parents aren't going to help pay.
