Answer:
A grant is money(aid) awarded to you under conditions you will agree to. -You must take an appropriate number of credits for it to be awarded. If you fall under the designated number of credits, you're either reduced or not awarded anything at all. -If you fail any class, the costs of those classes are charged. So in a way, you pay back part of your grant. The general idea is that this money is meant to be used for your success in school. Failure or dropping out means the money was not used for its intended purposes and by definition, you broke away from the contract/agreement. Assuming you do pass all your classes and take all of the appropriate credits, you do not have to pay back anything if it is a grant. In fact, any left over money can actually be used for whatever you want and it doesn't necessarily have to be related to school. Use the money wisely though. Pay off your classes to the best of your abilities, use the rest if you still have it to buy your books, then if by some miracle you have a little bit left, use it as you see fit.

Pell grants are recorded and monitored. If you fail a class, your next grant money may be reduced. If you drop out of classes, you will owe the entire amount back to the government. (They will place a lien on your future tax refunds and on your credit records)

You don't have to pay back grants unless for specific reasons such as failing classes or dropping out.
