How are middle class and poor people going to afford college if financial aid stops raising with tuition hikes?
-
College tuition is going up almost EVERYWHERE. and in case you havent noticed, economy aint looking too good. I get msot of my money from financial aid and work work part time. I ahev a schoalrship but that doesnt cover a lot. Mu tuition has gone up (and im a commuter) and many others, but financiala id has gone down. So how in ana economy liek this will student be able to afford a future and study to do what they love if they don't have or get the money? Hey, i would even be willing to go to work full time and school part time IF I COULD AFFORD IT!!! Part time students get no money from FAFSA, and banks are giving out less loans, so how will I afford to finish my degree when ima on year one already, I'm a freshmen in computer scinece, i love it, but i dont wanna stop, but im notr ich either :(

Answer:
Poor people will be fine as they get free money thrown at them from federal and state governments. It's the middle class that earns too much to qualify for much assistance but not enough to pay out of pocket that will miss out. I work full time and go to school as I can afford it out of pocket - I get no financial aid at all. No loans, nothing. That should change in the Fall when I should be able to get loans again though. It's sad how excited I am to be able to go back into debt :/ Just as an anecdote though, my school's tuition has not increased in the past year, and the school I will be transferring to announced last semester that tuition will not increase at all in 2012.

When there are less jobs for the boys, why would the ruling class want to waste resources on higher education for the working classes? If just encourages them to lust after advantages they are not entitled to. Of course they could always take out a massive loan and spend the rest of their working lives earning money just to pay the bank and the building society, and insurance companies and council taxes and VAT, and parking charges and road tax and fuel duty and if they have anything left there is always income tax and death duties, inheritance tax.... I wonder if we could charge them for dying... maybe a funeral tax.
