Is youth allowance the best thing to get while studying at uni?

I live in Sydney, but I am going to uni in Surfers Paradise. So i'm not living with my family. Should I get Centerlink youth allowance? Or is there something else I could get that would be better for me. Also, could you please tell me how I can apply for the youth allowance or the other thing you have suggested. Thanks!
