Can you still receive financial aid without a green card?

Financial Aid at a community college, help?

  • I just applied for school. I had to pay $32.50 for health services, student services and a transportation fee for the public bus that I will never use because I am taking all my classes online. There is no way to waive the transportation fee and I cannot fight it unfortunately. I Just bought books because I start in two weeks. In order to get our refund(if any) we have to sign up for a Sallie Mae debit card and by my schools schedule I won't get that until mid April. Is there a chance I will still get a refund that way I get reimbursed for my books and the other fees from school? Here is the last portion of my award letter from school. I have no other documents to submit for it. Please note that this is not a final award letter. You must submit all required document(s) to determine your FINAL financial aid eligibility. Please visit Web Advisor and click on Required Documents in the Financial Aid Information Menu for a list of document(s) that you must submit to complete your financial aid file. Please note: Not all course are approved for financial assistance. A list of courses that are not approved to receive grant or loan funds is available at any SFS counter. BUDGET $17,694 EFC $0 NEED $17,694 Award Total Fall Spring BOG Fee Waiver-B $1,080.00 $540.00 $540.00 Award Total $1,080.00 $540.00 $540.00

  • Answer:

This is what it seems like to me, given the information you have provided . . . The cost of attending the school is: $17,694. I'm not sure if that is for the full Fall-Spring school year or just for the Spring semester. I think probably it is for the full school year. To date the amount of financial aid you have been awarded totals $1,080 for the full school year - $540 for this Spring semester. If the total cost of $17,694 is for the full school year, that makes the cost of this Spring semester $8,847. Subtract $540 from $8,847 and that leaves $8,307 you will still need to pay out of pocket, unless you receive some Federal financial aid (Pell Grant, take out a Federally subsidized student loan) or you receive a scholarship from the school or elsewhere. I do hope you speak with a financial aid adviser at the school who can explain to you want you may still owe to attend the school or if you will receive much more in financial aid and therefore possibly eventually receive a refund. Best wishes
