Help with student loan please?

Student Loan Help Please!!!!!!!!?

  • I have good credit but when i applied for a sallie mae signature loan they basically said im approved but i cant get the money unless i have a creditworthy cosigner. now im not really close with my family so i cant really think of anybody to be a cosigner but my mom but she has horrible credit and i dont want to mess up my chances by putting her as a cosigner. I already got a stafford loan and my mom applied for the parent plus loan and got denied so that gave me an extra $4,000. but i still need $12,000 in about a week to make up the difference. can anybody please help me what are some other PRIVATE loan options i can look at?

  • Answer:

I've taken out Chase student loans and they have pretty good interest rates, and still defer it until after graduation. Look at most any bank for private loans. I would suggest calling your school's financial aid department and telling them the situation and see if they can help you. If they can, great, if not, maybe they can give you a little leeway if the tuition is late. Best of luck!

July 25th, 2007 I guess the first question that comes to mind is, what is your credit score? If you don't know it, you can get one for free annually at http://www.myfico.com/. OK so the next question would be, do you have any assets? Being a student, I would guess not... If not, think of a friend or another relative that can ask to co-sign. Normally people that would consider a trustworthy college student would be more than willing to help you get on your feet for an education. If you need money in the interim, there are people that loan hard money for a higher interest rate till you can lock down a better option. Email me at [email protected] and I can give you more information. Copy and paste this in the body to refresh my memory. I can feel your pain, sweetie! My daughter and I are both in college, too. My daughter and I both applied for Sallie Mae Loans (we both have good credit -- and I'm 46 years old) and were basically told the same thing as you -- that we needed creditworthy co-signers. It's all because of the credit crunch these days and this economy. I don't know where else to tell you to turn because this is happening with just about every lender. They don't want to get burned like the mortgage lenders did when everyone started defaulting on their mortgages! I wish I had the answer. I don't know what my daughter and I are going to do, either. We are both short in financing our educations.

Without a good cosigner you won't get approved for any private loans regardless of the lender. Sounds like you need to find a cheaper school. You can attend most state schools in what you are getting in Stafford loans.
