How much will I get from the Pell Grant?

How much spring/sumer financial aid should I get if I usually get the full Pell Grant?

  • Generally for the fall/winter semester I get the full Pell Grant along with some money for loans. I am only in my third year so I am expecting to get that again. I am wondering about how much financial aid I should get if I was to go full time for spring and/or summer.

  • Answer:

Zero Pell Grants for summer. From an April 29, 2011 newspaper article: St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Pell Grants for Summer are Dropped in Budget Deal * http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/article_48b13288-a86d-5a23-a281-1acbd326c461.html [Quote] Among all the compromising done by Democrats and Republicans was a plan to trim back the rapidly escalating costs of the Pell Grant program that supports low-income college students. They decided to kill the portion of the program that offers support for the summer semester. . . . [snip] Cutting summer aid, starting in 2012, was the better option in the eyes of some local financial aid officers. A more general across-the-board cut, they said, would have affected a much larger pool of students. [End quote] Pell Grant funds will only be awarded for the main school year, Fall through Spring.
