First, please understand that there is not such things as "fafsa money." FAFSA--Free Application for Federal Student Aid--is simply an application listing, among other things, your and your parent's income and assets to allow the federal government to determine the EFC: Expected Family Contribution. The verified FAFSA (along with the SAR: Student Aid Report) goes to the colleges you have indicated on the form. The college(s) use this info to determine if you're eligible for federal grants (think Pell grant), state and/or local grants. They also use it to determine if you're eligible for any institutional (college) aid they may offer you. Do NOT assume you are getting "fafsa money" to cover your tuition; you are not. You may qualify for need or merit based scholarships at the college you've applied to, based upon your EFC and/or high school grades (GPA), SAT/ACT test scores, class standing, etc. If you're lucky enough to win such a scholarship, your school will apply it toward your tuition and associated costs. Your college will not award you money that exceeds the school's COA (Cost of Attendance). Hope this helps. You can do simple Google searches to find scholarships that you think you may be eligible for, and apply for them. Good luck!
