How much finacial aid is this?

How much financial aid should I expect?

  • Im a little anxious and antsy about financing for school and classes start soon & Im not sure if I should register yet because my funds aren't available. Ive tried asking my fin aid counselor at my school for a estimate of how much I will receive but that didn't get me much info. This will technically be my second year. I started as a dependent freshman at a University and paid my way the first semester, the last semester I received aid for around 7,000 which covered housing and tuition but no books. This time around Im doing an online school as a independent student and starting classes in the summer hopefully. How does financial aid work? Are you awarded more by your dependency status or the amount of time you've spent in school? Will I be awarded enough to cover tuition & books for the whole year this time around?

  • Answer:

You financial aid award is determined by your EFC. Your EFC is determined by how much you made last year (if an independent student) or how much you and your family made if you are dependent. Since you did not put you EFC on here I can't even really give you an estimate of what you would receive. College should give you enough financial aid to pay for cost of tuition, However, a lot of that aid may be in the form of loans (subsidized or unsubsidized) Others may be grants or even tuition waivers for income or merit based. All in all your EFC plus loans, grants, and scholarships should be enough to cover tuition, books, and room and board.
