How to gain CA Residency Status?

If I move in with someone who is a resident of a state, do i gain residency status as well?

  • I was thinking of moving in mith my boyfriend in Virginia, who is a resident (I of Florida) over the summer, and going to the local community college there to get rid of primary classes. Would I have to wait however long it takes to gain residency status to pay in-state tuition? Or is that taken care of because I'm living with him?

  • Answer:

Each state has it's own requirements for residency for tuiiton purposes. Virginia has a 1-year requirement for you living and working in the state before you can get in state tuition. You can't be enrolled in a school for that period of time. So if you're going to move in with your boyfriend and then take classes within a year, you're going to be paying out of state tuition rates. http://www.schev.edu/students/VAdomicileguidelines.asp#DomicileRequirement

unfortunately no you would not be considered a instate resident.. however if you are currently enrolled in a college check with the registrar office and see if they have any other options.
