Answer:
I support Serietah's answer regarding completing and submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid - http://www.fafsa.ed.gov ) to be considered for Federal Pell Grant funds and Federally student loan funds. Regarding scholarships - you can look for scholarships for which you may qualify/to which you may wish to apply by using what I think is the best, most reliable database: Scholarship Search offered by the well-respected College Board: * http://apps.collegeboard.org/cbsearch_ss/welcome.jsp Click on the Start link in the middle of the text. If you choose to register (free) so you may return later and modify your search strategy, feel secure that you will not receive spam emails. Also, many colleges/universities* have scholarship/grant funds for just their own students. Staff members of the colleges/universities may need the info from your completed FAFSA to determine if you will be awarded any scholarships/grants or may need a completed CSS Profile (from the College Board - http://sitesearch.collegeboard.org/?q=css+profile&searchType=site&x=11&y=10 ). Scholarships generally require excellent high school grades or college/univ. grades. You can telephone the Financial Aid Office of the school you wish to attend and ask about scholarships or look for info about them on the school's Financial Aid web pages. *By colleges/universities I mean: local taxing district funded community colleges, state government funded colleges and universities, and private and independent colleges/universities (not to be confused with for-profit/career/proprietary colleges, which first and foremost are businesses with the main focus of earning profits for their shareholders.) The only place to apply for the Pell grant is the FAFSA. You can also google "scholarships" and start searching for ones you may be eligible for. I recommend using a throw away email address for registering for those sites though.
