Question about College Tuition Costs?
-
Hello, I'm a senior and an incoming undergraduate freshman this fall. I got accepted to a university that wasn't my top choice and the tuition is around 25,000$ a year. Whereas the popular Community College, Montgomery College, near me is only 10,000$ a year. I'd like to know: If i go to community college for 2 years and rack up 20k in debt, then go to a college of my choice for around 25k for my junior and senior years and rack up 50k in debt for a total of 70k, and then I decide to go onto obtaining a master's degree for 1-2 years, how long would it take to pay off all my debt for 6 years of school. Keep in mind, I'll have only racked up 70k in debt for my Bachelor's Degree if I choose to go down this path, I don't know how much more it will cost for a Master's. So how long would it take off to pay the 70k from my Undergraduate Studies and the unknown debt from my Graduate Studies (supposedly 6 yrs in total). I believe I am eligible for grants and financial aid as I have filled out a FAFSA and I am eligible for a Pell Grant. I don't know what other type of financial aid I could receive. I'm also a Computer Science major if that helps provide a more thorough answer.

Answer:
You don't need to go into debt for a community college (as long as it is in district). As long as you take 2 or 3 classes a semester and skip summer you can pay with a part time job and diligent saving. I know cause I have. If you decide to go for "financial aid" what you will get are grants that you don't have to pay back. That can help if your tettering on the broke edge. When you go to a university (especially a pricy one) you might need to take on a loan but maybe not if you get good grades thorought your community college and earn a scholarship. You can also get a "solid" associates degree "AAS computer science" and work in your career path for a while before transferring onto a 4 year school, allowing you to have a higher income and therefore be able to pay for school You do not need a masters. If you want a master's get your employer to pay for it
