How common is it to get a scholarship to a college for academics?

  • I get staight A's right now in 8th grade and I will try to continue that in highschool. If I keep it up how common is it for me to get a scholarship to a college for academics. I want to be a middle school teacher and I'm going to take spanish all through highschool. I don't know if that matters and I know it's not all based on grades but ya know. I want to go to a University of Northern Iowa or U of I. Nothing big but I don't know if I could get a scholarship. I have t o decide because if it's not that common I might have to do band and I don't really want to because that means giving an elective class up and I have others that I want to do way more but I don't know if I should just contine with academics or not. I don't plan to do anything with music, it just might be easier on my money status if I had a scholarship. So how common is it?

Small and partial scholarships? Yes. Full-ride scholarships are very rare. They count grades very heavily so keeping straight A's is a great thing. They look at volunteering and community involvement, too. Go wide when you search for scholarships. The school might offer some, and community groups are a great source for hidden funds.
