Things for a college student to do in the summer?

Student Loans and Work Study (College)?

  • I start college in the Fall and just viewed my financial aid package and included were these loans: $3,500 Federal DL Subsidized Loan $2,000 Federal DL Unsubsidized Loan $11,526 Federal PLUS Loan (Offered) I've also been offered $2,000 for Work Study So, always heard bad things about student loans - what are your thoughts on what they offered me? My FAFSA calculated my EFC 0. Also, more info on work study - should I accept the offer or should I look for a regular job? I'll be moving to the college area in the summer. Don't know if it's relevant but I just turned 18, don't currently have a job but have some savings, and haven't lived at home in over 4 years so will not be getting any aid from anyone. Sorry for the choppiness of this and thank you!

  • Answer:

I am just like you. I just turned 18 and going to college in the fall also. I have the same aid as you too. I get $2200 for work study though. Anyway, my counselor told me that you should stay on campus and go for work study for your first year maybe second, that way you can focus on your education. Then once you know you can juggle a busy schuduele get a job off campus.
