How does tuition assistance work?

How do I use my National Guard tuition assistance and my GI Bill?

  • I ETSed in Nov 2011 and I'm currently a full time student using my Post 9/11 GI Bill, which pays tuition directly to the school as well as giving me the cost of living allowance. I am also in the NY National Guard. Does anyone know if I can use the National Guard Tuition Assistance as well as the GI Bill? And if so, how does that work since the Guard pays the school directly as well. I've heard that both will pay your school and whatever the school does not use for tuition they pay back to you? I've heard so many things, I'd just like to know so I can get the ball rolling. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Your school will report how much the National Guard is paying. The VA will pay the difference under your GI Bill.
