Help with student loan please?

Student loan help please?

  • ok let me tell you guys a little about me, I have 2 kids im 21 & live in Birmingham AL. I'm starting college going for medical assistant, right I got a student loan, but I think I'm regreting it from reading all these bad things about student loans! so my question is can I cancel this loan I just signed today 2-16-2012? & try to apply for a grand or something else? I don't know what to do and no1 from my family went to college, so they cant help me out. I don't know what to do and I don't want to be in debt!

    You can apply for a grant -- in fact, you should and the Financial Aid Office at your college should be helping you with that -- but in all likelihood, you won't get enough in grant money to cover the full cost of your tuition, books, and fees. Nobody does. You'll still need to take out student loans to cover most of the cost, unless you and your family have enough money to pay for it out of pocket -- which I assume you don't. I don't know what "bad" things you've heard about student loans, but there's no reason to be afraid of them. Just about everyone who goes to college takes out loans to pay for it. You don't have to start paying them back until after you graduate, you have 10 years to pay them back, and monthly loan payments are reasonable. Yes, it sucks to be in debt, but that's the price you pay (literally) to get an education unless you're independently wealthy.

Honey ===== are you going to one of the for-profit schools (like Virginia College) or are you going to some place credible... like Jefferson State Community College? I am from Birmingham, AL aso I haven't tried to cancel a loan immediately after signing it, so I don't know.... but, I would suggest you talk with your Fin Aid office & ask them what they suggest...... I would think, worst case, you could simply pay it immediately back Have you actually started school yet? Have you looked at the job market (or lack thereof) for Medical Assiting? I don't want to rain on your parade..... I would hate to see you invest money into school & not be able to get a job or only make $8 there are better (more hirable & better paying) options
