How to apply for grants to study a foreign language abroad?

Is it possible to find an organization that will give me a grant to study Spanish abroad?

  • I'm not a college student. I'm a working professional. I want to do total immersion study to learn Spanish in Mexico. I'm doing this for personal enrichment, for job enhancement, for a career makeover perhaps. I'm interested in multicultural communications. Would like to be fluent in a second language. This is not relevant to my employer, so they probably cannot/won't offer any financial help. Never applied for grants before. Don't know much about it. Could there really be an organization/foundation who'd be willing to offer money to help me do this? Are there other ways/programs to join that might help pay for this while I help them? Or are there employers (non-governmental) where language training is part of the job? Any ideas and steps to take would be appreciated. (Peace Corps said they are not a language school. Plus, currently, Latin American countries have requested help in areas that speak indigenous languages, not Spanish.)
