Can I join the Russian Armed Forces?

Can I join the US Armed Forces to pay for college, and then do ROTC?

  • I've investigated the issues of joining the armed forces (currently leaning towards the Marines) and I want to know if it is possible to do basic training and short term active duty for college money, (medicine), and then do ROTC if i decide I want a longer experience in the armed forces

  • Answer:

No. The short answer is no I don't think so. If medicine is what you want to get into the Marines is not the branch of service for you anyway. The marines do not have any of their own medical staff, they use the Navy medicine. If you want to do the military first, go into it in the field you want to stay in when you get out. Some military training can actually count toward college credits. For instance, after boot camp you will never need to take P.E. in college again! If you were to join say the Navy, for Hospital Corpsman (pronounced core-man) your training makes you eligible to take the test and become a LVN. Very little extra training needed. I would stick to your original plan, get some financial aid and go officer all the way! If the military is where you are headed hang in there and do it right. Look at the long term not just your immediate needs. I hope I helped and did not confuse you even more. Good Luck and thanks for considering serving your country!

Air force and Navy are the best services for attending college while in the service. You will go to Iraq as a marine. Most will pay your tuition to take classes while your in the service.
