When is the best time to apply to CUNY?

Help with federal student loans. CUNY?

• I have filled out my FAFSA and have been accepted to college. I am from Tennessee and will be going to Baruch College in Manhattan? Here are my questions: Will student loans help cover rent for an apartment? How will it work? Around what time of the year do financial awards go out? If you go to CUNY, how much did you get with your EFC? Thanks!!

  You will not get enough money from FAFSA generated Student Loans to cover any sort of housing... in fact, (see matrix below) with out-of-state student tuition, if this is one of CUNY's 4-year schools, then you won't even get enough FAFSA generated money to cover just the tuition that will need to be independent student loans (require a co-signer with excellent credit & good income) See here: http://www.cuny.edu/admissions/financial-aid/estimating-costs/tuition-fees.html Make sure you look at the last box... Students Living Away From Home.... note that this total of @ $17,000 does not include the tuition you must pay... also, bear in mind this is an estimate based on using student housing (not an apartment) See the first box on that page & look at out-of-state students to get your tuition amount If Baruch is a 4-year, then you need to allow a little over $14,000 to cover tuition & fees (see the boxes below the tuition matrix for fees) $17,000 + $14,000 = 31,000 per year How much out-of-pocket do you & your parents plan to spend? honestly, you won't be able to get enough in student loan money to cover this for 4-years... that would be over $120,000
