How can I get a good scholarship? ? ? Important please help ! !?

Hi, I'm a Sophomore in High school (Oregon). Today I was talking with my mom about my future and college. Since my family really can't afford to send me to college I have to get a Scholarship no matter what. In my Freshman yr, which I heard was just as important as Senior yr I kinda screwed up. I got As & Bs but I think I got a C in Algebra and I'm retaking it. So the question is how do I get a scholarship? I'm a normal student with average grades. I'm taking golf as a sport also I know that the SATs are very very important. The school I want to go to is Oregon State University. Is a university a good place to learn how to be a graphic designer? Because my dream job is to be a Graphic Designer. Please help me. I really really want to go to college and I'm not very special in school. I'm a average student ! My Math Plan - In Junior yr I'm going to take Geometry & Algebra 2, so that in Senior yr I can take the next math course which is... I don't remember. Can you tell me :} Also how can I study for my SATs and are there any good Pre-SAT online tests I can take? Please help me ! You can answer this question or e-mail me :} Thank you !

Answer:
I go to Elon University, a semi prestigious small university in North Carolina. I ended up with a 3.5 gpa in high school and a 1350/1600 on my sats. Writing a good essay helped. And scholarships are primarily judged on 2 things: merit and need. Show merit (decent grades - I had a few c's, its ok it really is) and need (single parent, low income family, etc). I got a 25% reduction in tuition on need alone. Average is ok! Pre calc usually follows geometry and algebra 2. For the SATs, read a lot of books to broaden your vocabulary and use the supplied practice tests (PSAT) to work on everything. Look into local scholarships and work study opportunities. Most high schools will readily help you find as much money as possible, and there really are people out there throwing money at teens trying to go to college.

you get scholarships from doing good in school. Search for many possible scholarships and see if you can qualify for them, just try and get high marks in school, you can get a scholarship for getting on the honor rolls.

Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Trig and Calculus. Biology with lab, Physics, Chemistry, 4 years of English and at least 2 years of the same foreign language are usually the standards. Each state may vary a little so make an appointment with your high school counselor and make yourself a schedule for the entire 4 years of high school so you KNOW you are on the right track. You don't want to know you need a certain course like History and then find out it is only offered once every other year. Don't get sucked into the "do extra curricular" like golf and swimming and volunteer a bazillion hours to get into college routine. Your SAT, class rank and GPA will constitute about 90% of your admission packet. Extra curricular don't help you much if you spend all of your time doing them but still can't do College Algebra or get bad grades. Its time to stop being an average student and time to start being the best student. Don't necessarily estimate how great academically you are based on your friends. Lots of folks make this mistake and get to college and are blown away because they didn't realizes their peers they were SLACKERS. LOL Good luck.. study hard, enroll yourself in a note taking and study skills seminar, and many local schools have SAT prep programs... but the best way to prep for the SAT is to take and excel in your high school courses. Algebra, Chemistry, Geometry.... this is what college will be like.
just not that
