My husband last semester of school, how should we pay for the bill?
-
Ok, my husband is supposed to start his last semester of college and then he'll earn his Bachelor degree. My husband has been back n forth with school. Since before I met him, he would do 1 or 2 semester then take a break, go back and then take a break, etc. After a while, he realize that he really want to finish and want to stop pushing it off so he started back to school full time and have been going every semester since. Now we are at his very last semester. His classes are registered and everything. After this semester, he's done and he'll graduate with a Feb 2012 degree. Problem, we can't afford the bill. We don't get financial aid so he's been paying his bill out of his pocket while he been in school, which is great. We really want to avoid student loans. During the time when he first started college, he went to a private school and racked up loans of about $15,000, which wasn't bad. During his time out of school, he really focused on paying that loan off and he managed to get 12k paid off which I'm very proud of him for. He only owe 3k now. Our issue is that he just recently got laid off and without an income, he cannot pay his bill for this semester unless he take out a loan and he is very adamant about not taking out a loan. Especially because he worked so hard to bring it down, adding a loan onto his 3k student loan is just not even an option for him. I understand how he feel and where he's coming from but I really don't want to see him drop his classes. It has been such a long road for him to finish school. His classes is already registered. He can be done and get his degree by the end of the year. It would be a great accomplishment. I really want him to finish this now rather than later. His plan is to go back in the spring semester, hopefully by then he'll have money to pay for school out of his pocket. My fear is what if all of the classes he need are not available in the spring 2012 semester. What if he have to break that last semester up into 2 semester because of the unavailability of the classes. What he could finish this semester can possibly take another year to finish. Maybe I'm stressing over this too much but it's just that I know how hard it was to get him to build up the courage to go back to school after he stopped and he's been doing so well. His GPA is a 3.8. I just want to see him finish it, especially now that all the classes are already registered for. I do want him to find work soon but at the same time, with him not working it also gives him more time to study and focus on passing these final classes. I want to help him pay the bill but I'm trying to focus off paying down my student loans and with him not working, it's difficult for me to cover our monthly expenses, my own student loan debt, and his bill. I know that he don't want me to pay his bill but I really want to see him finish. Besides, getting his degree will open up more doors for him in the long run. I don't know if we should charge it or if I'm going to have to accept that he want to hold it off until next semester.

Answer:
You will have to take out student loans like the rest of the students who were not born into rich families. Sorry!
