Volunteering at a hospital?

Does volunteering at a hospital look good on college applications? What about volunteering at a library?

  • I'm going to college for psychology and need any scholarships & financial aid i can get. How good do volunteering at a hospital and/or library look on college applications? -Thanks!

  • Answer:

volunteering looks great on your application. its something to do with "giving back to the community". if you can, you should even have your coordinator (the person who tells you what to do when you volunteer or the person you answer to) write a reference letter. That would be great on your application. But not only will it look great on your college application, but even when you get a job, you can put that on your job application. volunteering is perfect because it shows that you are giving, aware, and that you care about the disadvantages of others, people love it when you show them you care.

yes colleges and universities definitely for things like volunteering on an application to go to their school and also your past and present grades as well as programs and teams that youve been involved in. although it does look good on your papers, universities also look for SAT scores or ACT scores depending on how big your uni is. so make sure you have all your tests complete if youre planning to go to a big time university.

My impression is that, yes, it looks good on a college application. However, many schools are now making volunteering mandatory for their students, which certainly takes the uniqueness out of it. My advice would be to volunteer in one place 2-3 hours per week over a long period of time. Our library gets many volunteers, some of them really bright teens, and it is always disappointing when one of the good ones finishes up his or her requirement and doesn't come back. My thought is that if they were really volunteering, it would be because they wanted to help, not because they had to.

I've always been told that any volunteering will look good on college applications and even scholarship applications.

try volunteering at the hospital since you are going into the psychology field but i would do a few hours at the library too if you have the time

THE MAKING OF ME(YOU FIQURE OUT)

I would volunteer at as many places as you can. It also helps getting letters of recommendation from those places, because anyone can say that they volunteer.

Yes any volunteer jobs (hospitals and library are both great) look good to colleges. If you are looking for more/other volunteer options that appeal to you in your area you might like to check out volunteer match: http://www.volunteermatch.org/ Best of luck to you friend.
