College grade question and Financial aid related.?

  • Ok so I'm in my first semester in college, and I recently saw that I'm failing 3 but one I can pick up cause its a 65. If I fail these two classes wich are a 35 and a 40 grades will I have to pay financial aid back and will they stop giving me it? my college is a community college. Do you think I can still pick up my 40% grade? classes end in may.

  • Answer:

You need to successfully complete at least 50% of your credits with a 1.5 GPA to remain in good standing. Under the most current federal regulations if your community college only measures Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid purposes once a year you may end up on financial aid suspension after this semester if you do not. A 2.0 is a C average and if you are taking only 3 classes you have to get better than C in two out of the three to meet both standards.

You need to sit down with each of your teachers as well as your Adviser and the Financial Aid office You need to ask each teacher what you can do to pull your grade up You need to ask your adviser how to get tutoring help or any other resource that might help you get your grades up You need to ask your Fin Aid office what will happen if you don't pass these classes.... you need to know possible outcomes that will affect the current semester as well as your future Fin Aid eligibility If you complete the classes & are attending, then they won't make you pay-back grants that are used on your behalf.... if you fail to show up or otherwise withdraw, then you can be charged with paying back any aid used on your behalf so... complete the classes in order to not have to pay back what has been used to help you this semester As it relates to next semester... if you don't complete & pass ALL of those classes... at least PASS, then you will not meet SAP (satisfactory academic progress) additionally, you will need to have at least a 2.0 gpa to continue to be eligible for Fin Aid Do you have any ideas why your grades are so low? What caused this? and what can be done to improve this? Kyle is telling you exactly as it is... please take this seriously!
