How much does it cost to go to a university overseas?

If accepted, can I see how much it will cost me out of pocket, before I decide to go to said university?

  • I'm taking my first year of college at community college, which I know I can afford. All of my tuition is being covered at community college, so it won't cost me much if anything to go there. I plan on transferring to an out of state university for the last 2-3 years. The total cost of attendance there is $22,000 for out-of-staters. If I am accepted as a transfer, is it possible to find out how much it is going to cost me out of pocket to go to my college of choice before accepting the offer to go there. If I don't get decent aid, I might consider staying in-state, where it would certainly be cheaper. I don't want to say, yes I will be going to X university, and then find out it will cost me $20,000 a year, leaving me $60,000 in debt when I graduate... OR, should I not be worried about cost and just go where I want??

  • Answer:

You can fill out a FAFSA as soon as you get your W-2 form for the year. I suggest you fill it out and it will tell you what financial aid you qualify for, if any. You can put down as many colleges as you want on the form and they will all get your financial aid info. You can then call the aid officer and find out what kind of aid you are eligible for, including grants and scholarships. It will be difficult to pay back the 60 thousand so you need to decide if your education at the out of state college is worth 60 thousand more dollars then a college you don't have to pay for.

Contact the college financial aid office for your prospective school and make an appointment with the financial aid counselor. They should be able to give you a more precise list of tuition, estimated book costs, room and board, and FEES! Lots of schools have HUGE FEES. They will also be able to inform you of all different types of aid available, some you may not have thought about. Check it out and then make a decision. Good Luck!

WORRY about cost, Hon. I paid off student loans for 14 years. My kid sis is graduating next year with a doctorate and $150,000 in loans. If you call the school, there are counselors available who will tell you cost. Do not forget living expenses and BOOKS. They cost a fortune. You are on the right track by trying to consider all parts of your education. Good luck.

every year that you it has a different cost. if you are going this year though you can find out the estimate cost by going through the financial aide office online or over the phone. they will give you an estimate on how much registration, room and board, tuition and any other fees. if you are transfering though they may give you money through a scholarship because you are a transfer. But theyre is no way to go through all years of college without leaving with debt. If you are fufilling what you want, the cost should not matter. i say go where you want

Yes, be worried about the $60,000 or more you would borrow. 1) Some colleges guarantee tuition will not go up during your time at that college. 2) If you are accepted as a transfer student and cost is a factor, be up front and tell the college. Many will work with you, find additional financial aid (not loans) to assit. 3) Come to Texas, out of state costs at our flagship state universities are not that expensive. 4) Check private colleges! Even though many are more expensive, they have a great deal more financial aid (not loans).
