How can I get a scholarship for an American university if I live in Canada?
-
I am an American Citizen. I am also (quite soon) a Canadian Citizen. I am a Canadian resident. When I apply for scholarships for "Canadian Students", they are only for Canadian Schools. When I apply for scholarships for "American Students", it asks me for my American home address. This is really annoying and I am really really frustrated. Scholarships that offer for both Canada and states & no matter where you live, are really rare. So far I have found ONE program, offering $1000. One. Canada obviously doesn't want their students to go to school somewhere else, because there are GREAT, SUPER convenient websites that search thousands of scholarships for you, only for Canadian universities. They even have an option for American Students to come HERE. Does anybody know a site that helps CANADIAN students get AMERICAN scholarships? Thanks

Answer:
You can't. If you have American citizenship, go live in the United States for a while and then apply for American scholarships. Or... get a Canadian scholarship and go to a Canadian university. Or... go to a Canadian university which has an exchange program with a US school. Scholarships are for people who need money. Why would the Canadian government give you money to go to a US school when tuition costs in Canadians schools is already subsidized for you? You pay four to five time the tuition costs in the US. The Canadian government is already giving you $15,000+ each year in the form of lower tuition in the universities they already subsidize. Same with private scholarships. If you have an extra $15,000 a year to spend on a US school over a Canadian one, then obviously you don't need the money. If spending four times more for an education than you need to is so important to you, don't expect others to send their money on you when there are kids who can't afford a quarter of the money you are spending on school. People who set up private scholarships don't want the money p-d away. They want it to go to children who can't afford Canadian schools... not those who have the extra money to go to US schools. Use some common sense.
