Can you get a Stafford Loan AND grant money at the same time?
-
I just applied for a stafford loan but am wondering if I can get a grant at the same time? Someone told me that I can and that I can use that grant money toward paying off my loan. Is this correct? Seems pretty wild to me that the gov't will give you a loan AND free money to pay off toward it. Was I being told a lie? I REALLY need the money so I am hoping this is true. Can I get a pell grant AND have this loan? It would greatly help me in more ways than one.

Answer:
basically. yes you can...the grant is yours to keep. doesnt matter its guranteed. now if they offered you a stafford loan...Great! this means the grant didnt fully covered your Estimated School Cost yet-which is how much money your schoold decided you need to have to pay for school. So yes you can get the grant and the Stafford loan. But if your grant covers your full school tuition then no. Hope i didnt confuse you more. and Good luck! :)

If you have applied for financial aid using the fafsa, you have already applied for grants, state and federal. Yes, you can get a grant and a loan, but you have to financially qualify as well. If you have already completed the promissory note for a Stafford, and the school didn't offer you a Pell grant or a state grant, then you didn't qualify.
