College application help?

Help with FAFSA and college application!!!?

  • I am a senior in high school right now and while I was applying for this one college, I had a problem with which name to use. I am Korean and a permanent US resident. So I have a Korean name and an English name. But on my social security card, my Korean name is on it. I am also going to apply for FAFSA in january. On the FAFSA application, I have to use my social security name, which is the korean name. so if I put down my english name on my college application, am I not eligible for receiving FAFSA when i go to college? Or do I have to use my korean name on the college app?? also, would it work if I used my english name (Chris) as my first name, and my korean name (jeong soo) as my middle name? so it would be like this: Chris Jeong soo Park and I really want to stick with my english name because I am more familiar and comfortable with it.

  • Answer:

On legal documents, use your legal name If you are a US resident, then it won't matter that you were born in Korea... you will be able to get FAFSA based on parent's tax records I would suggest that you let the college know that you prefer to use your american name I am sure FAFSA & Colleges see this fairly often :)
